Everlast omniflex Review: Overview

everlast omniflex review

Summary: The Everlast Omniflex is the perfect free standing heavy bag to have at home. It’s affordable, it’s high quality and doesn’t take up a lot of room.

The Omniflex isn’t designed for training high powered kicks as it’s flexible neck means that the bag can often topple over if too much power is delivered.

Instead, it’s much more suited to boxers or those who are looking to train their punches or elbows at home.

What we Like:

  • One of the best value for money free standing punching bags on the market
  • The flexible neck means the bag can swing forwards and backwards, which in turn allows you to practice your head and body movement
  • Easy to set up and doesn’t take up a lot of room
  • check
    Adjustable height settings

What we Don't Like:

  • Limited to practicing punches and elbows
  • My old Omniflex made a fair amount of noise when ever it was struck, which was slightly annoying

Design & Quality

High Quality Materials

The Everlast Omniflex is made using durable and long lasting materials and is actually one of the longest lasting bags I’ve ever had. For example, the outer lining of the bag is made using Nevatear material, which as the name would suggests never tears.

Wrapped around the bag itself is shock absorbing foam that helps to cushion the impact of your blows. Even with this foam, this is one of the harder bags that I’ve owned and would definitely recommend using gloves.

The first part of the bag to break is usually the neck joint from too much overuse, however I had mine for ages before I decided to change it up.

Stable Base

Due to the design of fee standing heavy bags, the base is an incredibly important feature. The Everlast Omniflex features a pretty solid base that can be filled with either sand or water.

This base provides the bag with the stability it needs to be able to withstand your repetitive strikes without toppling over or sliding along the floor.

Flexible Neck Joint

This has to be my favourite features of the Omniflex for a number of reasons. Firstly, when you strike the bag, it will swing forwards and backwards. This allows you to practice your head movement by ducking and weaving from side to side of the bag as it swings towards you.

Secondly, the flexible neck makes the Everlast Omniflex heavy bag a fantastic option for MMA and Muay Thai fighters looking to practice throwing strikes from the clinch.

You can put your hands behind the bag and pull it towards you simulating the clinch position, and practice throwing your knees and elbows. This is awesome as not many other bags, whether hanging or free standing, allow you to practice the clinch so effectively.

There is a downside to the flexible neck joint as it can’t handle receiving explosive kicks and can sometimes fall over depending on how powerful your kicks are.

To get an idea of the bags flexible neck design, check out the video below:

Adjustable Height

Having an adjustable height setting is pretty much a must have on any free standing bag, as it means that you can practice throwing strikes at different height levels. This is especially ideal if you’ve got a fight booked against an opponent whose height you’re not used to.

If, like me, you’re on the shorter side of things, you can adjust the Omniflex so that it is of a similar height to you.

As I’m one of the shorter guys in my gym, whenever we’re sparring, I’m usually striking upwards; having an adjustable free standing bag is a great way to practice striking someone of my own height.

Size & Weight

To be honest, the Omniflex is perfect for home gyms as it’s fairly compact, doesn’t weigh a tonne and is easy to set up.

When the base is filled with water, it will weigh roughly 130lb. This is actually pretty light for a free standing bag and is probably part of the reason the Omniflex can’t handle explosive kicks.

In terms of size, the Omniflex isn’t the biggest bag I’ve ever encountered. When extended to its maximum height, the bag will measure roughly 67”.

Price

One of the best aspects of the Everlast Omniflex freestanding heavy bag is its’ price.

For the quality and ease of use, its one of the best value for money bags on the market.

Everlast Free Standing Heavy Bag Buying Guide

Hanging Heavy Bags VS Free Standing Heavy Bags: What’s the difference?

You’ve probably noticed that there’s two different types of heavy bags in the form of hanging and free standing.

Which one is right for you will depend on a few factors that I’ll list below.

Less Room

Free standing heavy bags tend to take up less room than than hanging heavy bags due to the fact that they don’t swing as much. The Omniflex may actually be one of the exceptions to this, however it’s swinging distances is far shorter than that of a hanging bag.

Easier to Set Up

Free standing heavy bags are much, much easier to set up. Setting up a hanging bag requires either a beam to hang it from, or for you to buy either a stand or a heavy bag mount. Not only is this harder to set up, but adds to your cost as well.

Can’t Handle as Much Power

Unfortunately, most free standing heavy bags can’t withstand as much power as traditional hanging bags. Where a hanging bag has the ability to swing from side to side, the majority of free standing bags can’t. This means that they can often fall over if they’ve been hit with enough power.

How to Set Up the Everlast Omniflex Freestanding Heavy Bag

The Everlast Omniflex actually comes set up.

All you’ve got to do is decide between sand and water to fill the base with.

I would highly, highly recommend doing this with water.

The hole to fill the base is pretty small compared to other bags and takes ages with sand. If the sand is even slightly wet, it becomes a lot harder to funnel into the base.

Plus, sand ends up causing way more mess than water and to be honest, is no more effective.

Who is the Everlast Omniflex Meant For?

The Everlast Omniflex is meant for anyone looking to work on their striking technique at home.

Thanks to is flexible neck design, you don’t really have to worry about knocking it over unless you’re throwing all your power behind your kicks.

Even if you’re not a martial artist and are looking to incorporate a heavy bag workout into your routine, the Everlast is a fantastic option.
