TUF 8 Coaches Revealed: What a letdown

Date Added: May 13, 2008 06:15:30 PM
Author: Brian Robertson

Frank Mir and "Minotauro" Noguiera to coach TUF 8

In mid April the team at Cage Potato reported these two as the coaches of the next season of TUF, and unfortunately today it has been confirmed by nearly every site out there ( MMAJunkie, Fightlinker, Sherdog ). This is a bad move for TUF in that neither fighter is marketable and neither is a huge name or shows that much of a persona to draw attention from your audience.

The ratings for TUF have been in a steady decline for 3 seasons now and it hasnt mattered who the coaches were, nor do I think it will matter now. They desperately need to figure some ideas to save their ratings and retain their viewing audience and the choice of Mir, who spends a decent amount of time stuttering through WEC broadcasts, and Noguiera, who appears to have the on camera personality of a potato is not the answer.

The start of this season showed some promise to Dana White's constant claims of  "This season will blow you away". Bringing in 32 guys instead of 16 was a great idea to eliminate the Jason Thacker and Danny Abadi contestants, and get down to the guys who actually wanted to be there and fight, and even who actually had an idea of what to do in the cage.

Sadly I dont foresee any changes in the future and will make the bold prediction that "The Iron Ring" will surpass The Ultimate Fighter in viewers by the end of the year.
