Total Combat 28 Review and Results

Date Added: April 28, 2008 02:40:29 AM
Author: Fernando Araujo
The latest installment of the Total Combat promotions was again an awesome event. The show was 7 fights of non stop action with some great up and coming fighters.

Photos from this event will be available in our Total Combat Gallery this week

The main event of the night was filled with flurries of punches from heavyweight prospect Joey Beltran of North County Fight Club as he successfully stopped Phil Friedman of Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas in just 50 seconds of round 1.

In the most controversial fight of the night Joshric Fenwick of San Diego Fight Club battled to a draw vs Alliance MMA's Rolando Perez due to a point deduction for a headbutt by Fenwick. Fenwick escaped three very deep armbars that had him in a desperate position, each time he reversed and unleashed a decent ground and pound attack. Perez was clearly the crowd favorite and displayed some lighting fast hands and some devastating kicks. Fenwick put on a wrestling clinic virtually taking down Perez at will, but was no match for the speed of perez standing.

Fight of the Night honors go to Nick Garcia making his pro debut out of North County Fight Club and Kevin Dunsmoor of The Boxing Zone. These bantamweight fighters put on one hell of a back and forth battle. Both fighters traded punches and went back and forth on the ground the whole fight. Int eh third round it appeared that Garcia had the fight won with a guillotine, but Dunsmoor slid out and eventually mounted Garcia and unleahed a flurry of punches. Dunsmoor took the fight by unanimous decision in a fight that was much closer than the score cards would suggest. As a side note: Garcia was taken to the hospital of the fight due to a concussion and we hope he is OK and able to continue what would appear to be a promising career.

Joe Nichols of Leverage MMA made short work of Kris Kohl as the referee stopped the fight at 2:58 of round one due to strikes.

In other action David Espinoza of Pacific Martial Arts needed only 59 seconds to defeat Jason Henshaw , who was making his pro debut. Henshaw from Undisputed succumbed to a north/south choke that was the result of a slam.

Fighting out of Dojo Americana Mark Olsen won his pro debut by defeating Beau King of Team Quest with a very effective ground and pound attack in the second round that caused the referee to stop the fight.

Jose Rodriguez of North County Fight Club easily defeated Paul Almanza of Hostility MMA in Ventura. Almanza wanted no part of Rodriguez standing and repeatedly fell to the mat after a few strikes in hopes of a ground battle.

I clearly thought fenwick won the fight and dominated Perez, but Mr Fernando here thought Perez took it.

Either way great fight. I have some good photos going up soon of it.
