Last night the 4th and B in
downtown San Diego was home to the 25th installment of Total Combat. The night was
filled with exctiting action and entertaining
fights by some great local talent. Photos from
this event are available in our photo gallery.
Leading the night off was an exctiting match between Craig Wilkerson of Erik Paulsons Combat Wrestling and Danny Navarro fighting out of Riverside submission. This fight was a clinic by Wilkerson as he demonstrated good wrestling and excellent top control as he seized the unaninmous decision. Wilkerson was noticeably upset at the decision and was angry that he didnt finish the fight after haveing a rear naked choke sunk in for the end of all three rounds.
Casey Ryan defeated Jesse Juarez via triangle choke in the first round after being stifled by some excellent ground and pound. Ryan show good transitions and a good jiujitsu game going for submission after submission before finally landing the triangle at 2:27 of round 2
Jose Rodriguez of North County Fight Club showed a dominating wrestling game and often times brutal ground and pound in his victory over a seemingly overmatched Ethan Cox of Subfighter.
Evgine Khil a two time Kickboxing champion made his debut MMA fight losing a unanimous decision to Steve Torres of Team Wildman. Khil had the obvious advantage standing but Torres constantly took the fight to the ground and displayed a good range of strikes on the ground a good control from the top position.
Shanon Gugerty made quick work of Lucas Factor in a very dominating performance with the fight being stopped by the referee at 1:05 of the first round due to strikes.
Next up was Joey Beltran vs Ray Seraille in a battle of heavyweights. The first round was punctuated by quick exchanges between the fighters as they exchanged hard shots across the cage. Round two started the same with both fighters looking gassed. They exchanged punches a few times until Beltran caught Seraille with a vicious left that put him to the canvas. Beltran immediately jumped on the opportunity and started raining down shots until the referee stopped the fight at 56 seconds of round 2.
Mike Delatorre escaped multiple submission attempts and one very deep armbar before eventually succumbing to a solid triangle choke by Zach Taylor at 3:56 of round 1. Taylor was constantly working submissions from his very active guard and appeared to have the fight on the verge of stoppage with an armbar two times but Delatorre showed great effort and heart in escaping the submissions.
The main event of the night was a back and forth battle between Dave Hisquierdo of San Diego Fight Club and Greg Dalton of Team Wildman. The first round was a back and forth battle from the feet to the mat with Dalton showing a superior wrestling game. Unfortunately the striking and take down defense of Hisquierdo in the later rounds was too mich for Dalton to handle. Hisquierdo wins a closer than the score cards read unanimous decision.
