I know I am not alone when I say that the CBS show was not what everyone had hoped for. While Gina Carano, Joey Villasenor and Brett Rogers put in solid performances the main event between Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson and James "The Collosus" Thompson was lackluster at best.
Kimbo clearly won the fight and for the most part all the exchanges he showed he was very weak when defending takedowns and highly susceptible to submissions even from a fighter who has shown an almost non existant ground game. It was very clear if Slice takes a step up in competition he would quickly add a loss to his record.

The main event showcased two mediocre fighters in mediocre condition, though after listening to Johnson, Ranallo and Shamrock, you’d have thought we were watching the MMA equivalent of Ali-Frazier.
Have no doubt about this: Slice would be destroyed by any legitimate mixed martial artist. Had Slice faced ex-WWE champion Brock Lesnar, the current UFC rookie hopeful, he’d have been beaten in less than two minutes.

Slice’s performance on Saturday was not one that will help the future of EliteXC. A big part of Kimbo’s allure is his mystique and a lot of that mystique was exposed. His ground game needs a lot of work and the fact that he couldn’t finish a guy early that is notorious for a weak chin isn’t going to help him increase his fanbase further. Kimbo didn’t lose Saturday night, but his performance hurt his stock in the eyes of a lot of people.
